Lisa's Baby Shower

I have been looking forward to making this cake for my sister's baby shower for months now. I made the color flow head and royal icing flowers a couple days ahead and was pretty pleased with them. It took a little bit to get back in the decorating groove. Once I started making the cake, I realized the instructions were for a much larger cake, so the head and flowers were a little large for the 8-inch cake I made. I was fairly pleased with the result. Maybe the artist in me will never be satisfied and see perfection in my creative work. On the other hand, for the small amount of practice I've had, I'm not doing too bad I suppose.

Grace Church

Robert's aunt asked me to make a cake for their church to welcome the new priest. I agreed to my first paying job. Being pregnant, I was very tired the weekend the cake was to be made. My first mistake was forgetting to grease the pan before baking the cake. 4 boxes of cake mix down the tubes. I finally finished with just a few hours to spare. This was a very simple cake to decorate, which is more difficult when you can't hide your mistakes. I wasn't thrilled with the final cake, but more lessons were learned. This was the largest cake I've made so far, so I won't be quite so intimidated next time.

Happy Birthday Charlie!

This cake was for my 4-year old cousin who is into cars. I wasn't able to get a photo of the cake before he tried to destroy it. Thank goodness it was only a finger swipe of the tire. I found red icing was very hard to make without using a ton of food coloring. I tried to buy pre-made red icing, but had trouble getting the consistency right. In the end, I was pretty pleased, and Charlie thought it was great...which was all that mattered.
